Upwards of 150 girls and boys whose ages range from 4 years and upwards participated in nine different types of Community Games activities at area and county level. Art, Athletics, Basketball, Futsal, Gymnastics, Skittles, Swimming, Sports Acrobatics and team gymnastics. Our Summer Gym Camp was an outstanding success. Many thanks to the coaches, young people, parents and everybody who supported our Gym Camp 2010. Community Games athletes excel at the National Finals. Eight Arklow athletes travelled to Athlone recently to represent their Area and County at the 2010 National Community Games Gymnastics and Swimming Finals. In the individual competitions gymnasts Lauren Russell, Gabrielle Werder, Chloe Cullen, Megan Byrne, Rebecca New, Anthony martin and swimmer Ciarra Weadick finished just out of the medals. In the team gymnastics final, acrobatic girls pair Megan Byrne and Chloe Cullen and mixed pair Nadine Doyle O’Toole and Anthony Martin excelled in their routines and were rewarded with a fourth place medal. We wish to sincerely congratulate and say thank you to all of our young people, their coaches, parents, sponsors and anyone who gave us assistance over the past 12 months. Calling all budding gymnasts, our 2010-2011 season of general gymnastics, introduction and preparation training will commence at our training base, ST Mary’s College Sports Hall on Saturday 4th September at 10 am. Floorwork, Vaulting, Tumbling, Trampolining, Low beam, Trampette, Air Track and Asymetric Bars. Open to girls and boys from 4 years and upwards. Training fee is €25 per month. Arklow Community Games in association with Arklow Gym Club wish to sincerely thank Councillor Pat Fitzgerald on his attendance at the launching of their 2010 Summer Gymnastics Camp at their training base St Mary’s College Sports Hall on Saturday 3rd July. Arklow Community Games in association with Arklow Gym Club Newsround Sara Kenny – a tribute Arklow Community Games in association with Arklow Gym Club wish to sincerely congratulate and say thank you to their head coach and leading gymnast Sara Kenny on her retirement from completion gymnastics after 18 years of outstanding achievement at club, regional, all Ireland and anternational level. Sara, a student at Waterford IT, has completed her studies for her Sports, Recreation and Business Degree. Sara is a qualified Acrobatic Gymnastics and tumbling coach & judge and will be running the Arklow Community Games & Gym Club Summer Gymnastics Camp in St Mary Sports Hall, from Monday 5th July. She will also be training and managing the magnificent 7, Lauren Russell, Gabrielle Werder, Chloe Cullen, Megan Byrne, Rebecca New, Anthony Martin and Nadine Doyle O’Toole, who have qualified to represent Arklow and County Wicklow Community Games at the 20100 National Individual and Team Gymnastics finals in Athlone on the weekend of 13th, 14th and 15th August. Congratulations and well done 18 Athletes, members of Arklow Community Games travelled to Shillelagh recently to participate in the 2010 County Wicklow track and field finals. Gold Ciara Hannon under 12 Ball throw Silver Nadine Doyle O’Toole under 10 100 metres Bronze Anna Synnott under 8 60 metres. Arklow Gymnasts in top form Gymnasts representing Arklow, baltinglass and lakeside areas at the County Wicklow Community Games 2010 Gymnastics finals which took place in Arklow on Sunday 6th June. Arklow gymnasts were in top form winning 22 medals and the Lily Kavanagh Perpetual Shield for the best area in county Gymnastics Gold medal winners were: Lauren Russell, Gabrielle Werder, Chloe Cullen, Anthony Martin, Megan Byrne, Rebecca New Silver Medal Winners were: Zoe Keogh, Nadine Doyle O’Toole, Catherine Cummins, Aimee Jones Bronze Medal Winners were: Orla Annesley, Sophie Orr, Hazel Duggan, Nessa Russell, Anna New, Katie Russell, Jody Paine, Taylor Loonam, Chloe Hughes, Molly Lee, Xena Jordan, Ciara Cox The Gold medallists will now go forward to represent the County at the National Finals in Athlone on the weekend 13th 14th and 15th August Noticeboard Arklow Community Games in association with Arklow Gym Club will hold their Summer Gymnastics Camp at their training base St. Mary’s College Sports Hall from Monday 5th July for four weeks, Monday to Friday 10:30am to 3pm daily. Open to girls and boys from 4 years and upwards. Cost €60 for one week, €100 for 2 weeks, €150 for 3 weeks and €200 for four weeks.
